Prison Ministry

I have been serving at Corcoran State Prison in the capacity as a volunteer Protestant Chaplain since December of 2008,  located outside of fasionable downtown Corcoran, California..  I serve there roughly every other weekend in A,B,C & G Yards as the facilities schedule will permit.  It is a priviledge to minister to the men and staff there,  unfortunately there have been difficulties due to budget cutbacks effecting the services within California’s Prison System.  These cutbacks have  resulted in staff layoffs and as such the Chapels in the yards have been closed more often times than not since January of 2010.

Blessings,

Paul

    Hi Paul,

I just came by your site and read your posts. Do you ever minister on D yard? My husband was transferred there the beginning of Dec., and he would be very blessed to hear your message. He, too, is born again and alive by the grace of God. I’m including a link to his testimony, in hopes that it will bless you and so you will know what he looks like (if you minister on D yard). Also, if you know of anyone…he has been hoping to find a Christian man that is strong in his faith to correspond with him and provide mentorship. Jack is also looking for information to attend the Calvary Chapel Bible College (through their prisoner correspondence course), so any suggestions how to get through the application process would be greatly appreciated!

    In His Love,
    Kim

    Hi Kim,

Thanks you for sharing your husband’s testimony with me, I never get tired of hearing of how Our Lord redeems the lives of men and women who were previously headed for distruction. Please accept my appologies for the delayed response as I am presently wearing too many ministry hats to be much of a correspondant.

In response to your question about D Yard: I serve in A,B,C & G Yards at the “new” Corcoran facility. These yards range from Level 1 to Level 4 security and they have not had a full time Protestant Chaplain on Staff since January of 2009. At this time I am not serving in D Yard but there is a Protestant Chaplain on staff in that yard who I’ve tried to communicate with but have not heard back from as of yet. Hopefully as of this writing your husband has been able to spend some time with the staff chaplain in his yard.

Regarding a Bible Study Coarse: I was trying to set up a Bible College program at Corcoran in B Yard with the co-operation of Calvary Chapel Bible College in Murrietta, CA but unfortunately as of yet we have not had success due to the requirements for proper staff to oversee the required classes on location. If your husband wishes, he can write to me at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, 3800 S. Fairview Street, Santa Ana, CA 92704 Attention: Chaplain Paul Duke / Big House Revival or he can also write International Prison Ministries (IPM) P.O. Box 2858, Costa Mesa, CA 92628-2868 for their discipling literature. IPM was founded by Chaplain Ray Hoekstra who was used mightily by God in minstering to prisoners world wide. Chaplain Ray’s son, Pastor Bob Hoekstra who I am blessed to call my friend, now oversees IPM. IPM’s Website is http://www.chaplainray.org

    In Christ, Paul
