About Formerly Saul / In His Name

In His Name was originally founded in 1998 by myself, Paul Duke, the band’s lead singer, electric bassist and part-time guitarist.   (At that time I was not aware of the other ministries working under the same title either in the U.S. or overseas.)  Since it’s inception IHN has been a music ministry whose desire is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ as called to in “The Great Commission”, Matthew 28: 19-20.   IHN has been privileged to minister at a wide range of events ranging from outreach concerts to worship services at Bible teaching churches, U.S. Military bases, community outreach concerts and California State Prisons.   The musical influences of IHN reflect the colors of rock, blues, jazz and folk music.  Even though musical excellence is the goal of each musician- missionary who serve within IHN, it’s their heart to serve God that sustains this ministry.

As of 2010, at Chino Women’s Prison for their Mother’s Day Outreach, the band was to be begin performing as “Formerly Saul”.  This came about after I had played the part of the evil Haman in the production of “The Book Of Esther” which was/is based on the Old Testiment Book of the same name.  For some time many people who saw the play called me Haman which in time, (a year or so) got a little old for me as to me, it was akin to being called “Spawn of Satan”.   I began responding to these playful jabs by re-introducing myself as “Paul, formerly Saul”.   I suddenly realized that in many ways, we all who have been Born Again by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit could be called ”Formerly Saul” , and certainly I who before recieving Christ was in high ranking as a sinner.    Thus “Formerly Saul” was born as a banner of ministry.   IHN Music will continue for a season as the ”umbrella” under which we will continue to serve…

Blessings2u and yours,

Paul …  ”Formerly Saul”
